Challenges
- Client required completion in two years to meet its desired timeframe.
- Exelon’s advanced technology needs resulted in a significant number of upgraded change orders during the construction period, which increased the complexity of the project and challenged the delivery date.
- Community treasured Kennett Township’s rich history, and was concerned that a technologically advanced campus of Exelon’s size would upset the integrity of the town’s historical setting.
- Site featured an eighteenth-century farmhouse, and a meandering stream.
Success
- Filed preliminary plans with complete site analysis and engineering, resulting in a thorough evaluation and approval in a short timeframe. Delivered two buildings on time, as promised, ten and 13 months from the commencement of construction.
- Effectively managed Exelon’s change orders by adding staff to specifically handle this task.
- Listened to community members’ needs and involved community planners and officials as plan developed.
- Preserved historic farmhouse and implemented three stream and water conservation test projects for the local nature conservancy.
